Gas Chamber Door
This gas chamber door is completely metal. It has two handle on the right side to ensure it to be air tight. The door has a circular piece in the upper middle area. This circular piece has tiny holes punched through it, and on the other side of the door there is a glass type piece so whatever is on the other side of the door can not come through the holes when the door is shut. This circualr piece was put on the door so the SS officers could watch the killings. These doors were used on every gas chamber throughout the several concentration camps during the Holocaust. These gas chamber doors were used so that when the SS officers would put the Jews in the gas chambers the door would be strong enough to where nobody would be able to get out and when the gas was thrown in the gas chamber none of the gas would come through the door and hurt or kill the SS officers. Everybody who was put into a gas chamber was affected by this door because it was the one thing that kept the alive from the dead. This door is significant because it shows how serious Hitler was about killing all the Jews by making all these doors for the gas chambers, and how the SS officers were crule enough to have made a "peep hole" to watch the millions of Jews die in the gas chambers.
Leon Greenman's Uniform
Leon Greenman's uniform was worn when he was in the Buchenwald concentration camp. This uniform has a dark blue cap, a white and purple long sleeved striped shirt with buttons and a collar. The pants are also white with purple stripes. These uniforms were used throughout many concentration camps during the Holocaust. Thes uniforms were used to de-huminize everybody who had to wear them, to make everybody feel as if they were just as the next person. This uniform is significant because it shows how the people that were in the concentration camps didnt have clothes that would keep them warm during the winters, and it shows one of the many ways the Nazi's dehuminized the Jews in the concentration camps.
Knife, Spoon, and Fork
This knife, spoon, and fork was used by one of the prisoners in the consentration camps during the Holocaust. Silverwear was found in dumpsters, thrown away, in someof the Jews previous homes and given to the prisoners in the concentration camps to keep with them and use when they would get their rations of soup or bread. silverwear would be kept with the prisoners wherever they went because if they were to leave it in their bunks there was a good possibility it would be stolen and without anything to eat with. Taking their spoons, knives, and forks with them everywhere also ment it would not get cleaned, would be exposed to weather that would cause it to rust fast and would bend depending on the work that prisoner was assigned to do. These types of knives, spoons and forks were used in every concentration camp, with every prisoner. These are significant because it shows how un-sanitary these concentration camps were, how the prisoners of these concentration camps got to the point to where they didnt matter about eating with something clean they just wanted to eat.
